The South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC) will organise the 33rd Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Smruti Sangeet Samaroh, a three-day music festival commemorating the life and musical legacy of legendary Hindustani classical vocalist Dr Vasantrao Deshpande.
The festival will be held from July 29 to July 31, 2026, at Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Hall, opposite the MLA Hostel on Temple Road, Civil Lines, Nagpur. Programmes will begin at 6.30 pm each day and feature performances by acclaimed vocalists and instrumentalists from across the country.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Deepak Kulkarni, Assistant Director (Programmes), SCZCC, announced that the festival will open on July 29 with a performance by Padma Shri Shubha Mudgal, the celebrated Hindustani classical vocalist and composer known for her contributions to classical, pop and film music. She will be followed by an instrumental recital by noted sitar maestro and composer Niladri Kumar.
On July 30, audiences will witness the acclaimed Marathi musical play ‘Devbabhali’, written and directed by Prajakt Deshmukh. The production has received more than 44 awards for its artistic excellence.
The concluding evening on July 31 will feature performances by Padma Shri Pt Ronu Majumdar, one of India’s leading classical flautists, and renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Dr Bharat Balvalli.
Also present at the press conference were Mithila Talavenkar, Deputy Director, SCZCC, and Deepak Patil, Administrative Officer. The organisers appealed to music enthusiasts to collect entry passes from the SCZCC office and attend the festival.
