The Nagpur district administration has declared a holiday for all schools, colleges, anganwadis, and coaching classes across Nagpur city and the district on Tuesday, July 29, in view of the IMD’s Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall.
According to the order issued by District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Kumar Ashirwad, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Nagpur between July 28 and July 30. The city has already recorded over 108 mm of rainfall within a few hours, leading to severe waterlogging in several areas.
Considering the possibility of flooding, traffic disruptions, and other rain-related emergencies, the administration has taken the precautionary decision to suspend classes to ensure the safety of students.
The holiday applies to all government and private anganwadis, primary and secondary schools, colleges, and coaching institutes in Nagpur city, as well as Nagpur Rural, Hingna, Kamptee, and other areas under the Nagpur district, including the Nagpur Municipal Corporation limits.
