In addition to awareness, people’s participation is necessary to prevent electricity-related mishap, said mayor Nanda Jichkar on Friday.
She was delivering the inaugural address at a programme organised by the ministry for energy and labour welfare to mark Electricity Week, at Chitnavis Centre, in the city.
Director, MSEB Holding Company, Ramesh Goenka, Superintending Engineer, PWD Â (Electrical Wing) Vinay Nagdev and Superintending Engineer, PWD Dinesh Kode were seated on the dais.
Speaking further, she said people should be aware of the safety measures while handling electric and electronic gadgets. Continuous public awareness is the need of the hour to prevent mishaps, she said.
Though electricity has become a necessity today, it is also imperative to follow the safety norms while handling it, she said. A souvenir Tarang, brought out by the energy department along with a colander and a dairy were released at the hands of Ms Jichkar.
Ramdas Khandagale, Shyamsundar Rajput and Sharad Durugkar were felicitated with mementos on the occasion.
