Lukewarm response has forced the State Education department to further extend the deadline for admission under Right To Education (RTE) Act. This was the second time when the deadline was extended to confirm admissions to private schools.
The decision to extend the deadline was taken on Saturday. As per the new notification released by education department parents can submit the necessary documents and admit their wards in school till May 10.
The actual deadline to confirm admission was first extended till April 30 but due to poor response it was further extended to May 4. According to sources in the education department, till date 3612 out of 5699 parents completed admission process and admitted their wards to allotted school.
While over 2000 parents have not yet completed the admission related formalities. Various organisations and parents have  demanded the education department to extend the deadline, so that they can admit their ward in school. A meeting was held at education department headquarters in Pune over the issue. After considering the demand top officials decided to give one more chance to them.
However, parent who were waiting for the second round of admission have opposed the decision. According to them the education department has deprived their wards of their rights by extending the deadline for the second time.
