A huge fire broke out in Ambazari forest under Hingna range on Sunday reducing grass and trees to ashes in 125 hectares. A forest guard of Ambazari forest during his night shift noticed the flame around 1:45 am.
The security guards immediately informed the police control room and Hingna Range Forest Officer, Ashish Ninawe about the incident.
As soon as the officials received the information regarding the blaze, Assistant Commissioner of Police Siddharth Shinde, Police inspector R.D Nikam (Crime Branch Nagpur), Police Sub Inspector, MIDC Police station, N A Madankar along with RFO Ninawe, Vijay Gangawane, RFO Seminary Hills rushed to the spot.
Along with the officers 15 policemen, 20 forestmen, 6 metro labours and some localites started to douse the fire with the help of air blowers and fire tenders. After four hours of effort the fire was brought under control.
According to the sources, it is suspected that the reason behind the fire is due to some antisocial elements.
The forest officials have registered a case against unidentified miscreants and are also investing further to search the culprits.
