After all the bedlam, the civic chief has decided to shut down the two main vegetable markets in the city. As per information, the municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe directed to close down the Cotton Market and Kalamna Market until further orders. This indeed a blow for the farmers. The commissioner has taken the stern action since citizens were not observing the rules of social distancing while purchasing vegetables in these markets. Along with Cotton Market and Kalamna Market, those at Reshimbaug ground, Rajabaksha ground, Gadikhana ground and Budhwari bazaar have also been closed.Kalamna Yuva Sabji Adatiya Association president Nandakishore Gore informed that the citizens were continuously crowding at these vegetable markets.
This is the main reason behind the closure of these markets. In this regard, municipal commissioner had conducted a meeting with the association members. During the meeting the members said that the farmers will not be aware of the situation and they are reaching the market at late-night or early morning and they will have no place to sell their vegetables. Due to this, the civic chief has ordered to close down the market from Tuesday. Thus, the markets will remain closed until next order. Earlier, and the administration had issued orders 12 days back to permit only 50 middlemen and 100 vehicles inside the market to avoid overcrowding.
