Pandemic effect: State govt grants extension of irrign wells programme till June 2022

Planning Department (EGS) of State Government has granted an extension to completion of works under irrigation wells construction programme till June end. The extension has been granted on account of delays caused due to COVID-19. The programme is being implemented in Nagpur Division. In September 2016, Planning Department (EGS) had granted sanction to implementation of the mission-mode programme for construction of irrigation wells in five districts of Nagpur Division namely Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli.

Later on, in February 2019, the only district left out Wardha also was included in the programme. Accordingly, 13,000 additional irrigation wells were to be constructed. The works under the programme were expected to be completed by June 30, 2020. However, since March 2020, implementation of several Government schemes and projects got affected due to COVID19 pandemic situation. During lockdown imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19, the irrigation wells programme also got affected. The works could not be completed by the set deadline. Now the Government has granted extension to the deadline for completion of works under irrigation wells programme till June 30, 2022.
