It is heartening to know that a large number of oxygen and ICU beds are available in hospitals and hotels covered as Covid Care Centres. Still availability of ventilators is stagnated at zero mark.
The reason for availability of 770 Oxygen beds and 111 ICU beds could be down trend in Covid19 infection and also increase in beds in the hotels and other CCC developed recently.
Surprisingly 161 oxygen beds are vacant in Government Hospitals. This include GMCH, IGGMCH, Indira Gandhi Hospital, Railway Hospitals, Ayurved Hospitals, urban PHCs etc.
It appears that affected people are relying more on private hospitals. The reasons are difficult to understand, despite the fact that best health facilities are available at Government hospitals. Health insurance could be one of the reasons.
Private hospitals also offer help in arranging for medicines, blood plasma etc, which are scarcely available in the market. People are ready to spend huge sums instead of running madly for these medicines and plasma.
People wish that comfortable situation of availability of beds continue or improve further. At the same time they expect government to make adequate arrangements for the third wave of Covid19 as predicted by ICMR.
