Nagpur property owners will now be required to pay a Fire and Emergency Fee based on the annual value of their properties, according to a notification by the Maharashtra Government. The fee, applicable from May 30, 2023, will be calculated at a rate ranging from 0.25 percent to 0.75 percent.
Residential, institutional, commercial, and industrial properties are included in two categories based on building height. Buildings up to 45 meters will have fees ranging from 0.25 percent for residential properties to 0.75 percent for industrial properties. For buildings above 45 meters, fees will range from 0.50 percent to 1 percent. This fee is in addition to the existing Property Tax paid by property owners. However, buildings below 15 meters and those identified in section 15 of the National Building Code of India, Part 4, are exempted from the Fire Service Fees. The fees will be calculated based on the gross area of the building, including various components mentioned in the certified building plan. The Maharashtra Government has approved the Maharashtra Fire Preventive and Lifesaving Measures (Amendment) Act for implementing this tax.
