In a concerted effort to ensure safe New Year celebrations, Nagpur Police penalized 6,373 motorists for traffic violations on December 30, Monday. The action, carried out under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, resulted in ₹4,71,900 being collected as settlement charges.
The drive coincided with the launch of a citywide nakabandi operation at 4:30 pm, aimed at curbing drunk driving and other unsafe practices. Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Singal announced that checkpoints have been set up at key locations, with personnel equipped with breath analyzers to identify violators.
Dr. Singal also issued a stern warning to clubs and bars operating without permits or serving alcohol to minors, stating that violators would face strict legal action. “Our focus is to ensure public safety and prevent accidents during the festive period,” he emphasized.
To further strengthen enforcement, special flying squads have been deployed across Nagpur. The police are committed to maintaining law and order, ensuring that residents can ring in the New Year without incident.
