The Nagpur Traffic Police have implemented significant traffic restrictions, including flyover closures and route diversions, to ensure a safe and orderly New Year’s Eve celebration. These measures are part of a special drive targeting violations such as drunk driving, overspeeding, and other hazardous road behaviors.
Key Traffic Restrictions for December 31
To prevent accidents and maintain public safety, the following closures and diversions will be in effect from 6 pm on December 31, 2024, to 6 am on January 1, 2025:
1. Futala Lake Area: Access to roads connecting Telangkhedi Hanuman Temple, Air Force Nagar, and Futala Vasati will be restricted.
2. West High Court Road: Both lanes between Law College Square and Shankar Nagar Square will be closed.
3. Flyovers Shut Down: Major flyovers, including Birdi Gowari, Sadar (Katol Road-Manakapur), Sakkardara, Panchpaoli, and Mehdi Bagh, will be off-limits to all vehicles.
Traffic will be redirected as per the situation, with on-duty police officers managing the flow to minimize inconvenience.
Special Drive Against Violations:
The police will take stringent action against drunk driving, reckless speeding, and the use of loud music systems under the Motor Vehicle Act. Medical tests will be conducted for suspected drunk drivers, and offenders will face penalties.
Appeal to Citizens:
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Archit Chandak has urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and follow traffic rules. He emphasized the importance of avoiding actions that could jeopardize public safety.
