Noted banker, singer and social worker, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Amruta Fadnavis was honoured with the ‘Banjara Kala Ratna’ award in Delhi. Her presentation of ‘Maro Dev Sewalal…’ in her album praising Sant Sewalal Maharaj was responsible for her selection for the honour. The song is very popular among the Banjara community.
Replying to the honour Amruta Fadnavis started her address in the Gor language of the Banjara community. She said she felt happy that she could sing the song in the Banjara language relating to Sant Sewalal who propagated respect for women, protection of cows and the environment and love for every person. Sant Sewalal is an example of both modernity and spirituality, Amruta also danced with Banjara women in their traditional attire.
Banjara people from 15 states participated in the programme. Folk singers and dancers presented a cultural programme on the occasion.
