Garbage burning near the Ambazari Lake overflow point on Tuesday caused a fire that destroyed the ‘My Love My Nagpur’ monument. The fire started from the burning waste and quickly spread to nearby bushes, reaching the popular landmark.
The monument, installed by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) as part of a city beautification project, had become a favourite spot for locals and tourists. Its destruction has sparked strong reactions from environmentalists and civic activists, who are now urging authorities to take strict action against open waste burning.
Despite repeated warnings about its harmful effects on air quality and safety, reckless burning of garbage remains a recurring issue in the city. Authorities have begun investigating the incident and are expected to take action against those responsible.
