Following the recent communal clashes and attacks on police personnel, the Nagpur Police Commissioner has lifted the curfew in select areas while maintaining restrictions in others. The updated order was issued late on Thursday, March 20, after reviewing the law and order situation.
The unrest began after a protest demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb escalated into stone-pelting incidents, prompting heavy police deployment and enforcement of curfew under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
Curfew Updates: Areas Where Restrictions Have Been Lifted
To restore normalcy, Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singhal has withdrawn curfew in the following areas effective March 20, 2025, from 2:00 PM:
• Zone 4: Nandanvan Police Station limits.
• Zone 5: Kapilnagar Police Station limits.
Areas Where Curfew Remains in Effect Until Further Notice
Authorities have decided to continue restrictions in sensitive locations, including:
• Zone 3: Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar.
• Zone 4: Sakkardara, Imamwada.
• Zone 5: Yashodharanagar.
Legal Consequences & Exemptions
• Violators will face strict action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
• Exemptions have been granted for police personnel, government officials, emergency services, firefighters, and students appearing for exams.
The police are closely monitoring high-risk areas and have warned of strict action against those attempting to disrupt peace. Security forces continue to be on high alert to prevent further unrest.
