Nagpur’s most ambitious infrastructure venture — the ₹685 crore, 9.2 km-long Kamal Chowk to Dighori flyover — is hitting serious bottlenecks at two crucial locations: Panchpaoli and Sakkardara. Over a year since work began, progress has nearly stalled at these points, triggering traffic nightmares and exposing a lack of coordination between NHAI and the Railways.
At Panchpaoli, demolition of the old bridge is just 30% complete. The portion over the railway line remains untouched due to South East Central Railway’s failure to grant the necessary power and traffic blocks, despite clearing the demolition plan back in June. Ironically, officials had promised full removal in just 25 days when work began in April.
On the Golibar Chowk side, the old bridge still stands — a critical delay, since cranes rely on that stretch for dismantling. Without access, the project is stuck.
Meanwhile, Ashok Chowk to Sakkardara has turned into a slushy mess. A crane positioned at Ashok Chowk has blocked alternative traffic flow. Ongoing religious events at Baba Tajuddin Dargah have added massive footfall, worsening the gridlock. Even after requests from traffic police, NHAI refused to tweak its setup, leaving commuters in daily misery.
Started in July 2023 with a July 2026 deadline, the flyover is now at risk of severe delay. Unless agencies step up coordination, Nagpur’s biggest flyover could become its biggest headache.
