In a decisive move, the State Election Commission has announced that the voter list dated July 1, 2025, will be the final electoral roll used for all upcoming local body elections, including those for municipal corporations, Zilla Parishads, and Panchayat Samitis across Maharashtra.
State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare, during a review meeting held at the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Nagpur on Wednesday, made it clear that all election preparations must align with this voter list. The meeting was attended by Commission Secretary Suresh Kakani, Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari, district collectors, and municipal commissioners from Nagpur and Chandrapur.
Waghmare stressed the importance of ensuring smooth polling arrangements, instructing officials to prioritize accessibility for differently-abled voters, sufficient polling personnel, and EVM availability. He also directed that polling centers be aligned strictly according to the finalized voter list to prevent confusion or overcrowding.
Secretary Kakani emphasized the need to appoint coordination officers at the divisional level for managing polling stations, EVM logistics, and inter-department coordination. Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary presented the city’s preparedness report during the session.
This announcement marks a critical step in streamlining the electoral process and ensuring uniformity across Maharashtra’s local governance elections
