The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken action against individuals and organizations responsible for defacing the city by putting up unauthorized advertisement hoardings, banners, and posters on public places, private properties, electric poles, and trees. In the last six months alone, 185 violators have been penalized, and a total fine of ₹9.27 lakh has been collected.
The crackdown follows the NMC’s enforcement of its Outdoor Advertisement Policy, 2001, which lays out the rules, terms, and conditions for displaying advertisement boards within the city. The Sky Sign Department of the NMC has designated specific areas where advertisement hoardings can be installed, but only after obtaining official permission.
Despite these regulations, several individuals and businesses have been found installing hoardings and banners at unauthorized locations like public spaces, streetlight poles, trees, boundary walls, and bridges—without seeking proper permission. The NMC has initiated strict action against such violations across all zones.
From January 1 to June 30, 2025, the zone-wise penalties are as follows:
- Dharampeth Zone: Action against 51 violators; fine collected – ₹3.41 lakh
- Hanuman Nagar Zone: Action against 28 violators; fine – ₹1.09 lakh
- Nehru Nagar Zone: Action against 25 violators; fine – ₹73,000
- Laxmi Nagar Zone: 13 violators fined ₹50,000
- Dhantoli Zone: 20 violators fined ₹1 lakh
- Gandhibagh Zone: 19 violators fined ₹95,000
- Satranjipura Zone: 5 violators fined ₹25,000
- Lakadganj Zone: 2 violators fined ₹9,000
- Ashi Nagar Zone: 7 violators fined ₹40,000
- Mangalwari Zone: 15 violators fined ₹85,000
The NMC has urged citizens and advertisers to follow the rules and obtain proper permissions to avoid penalties. The civic body has reiterated its commitment to keeping the city clean and visually uncluttered by continuing strict action against illegal advertisements.
