Nagpur’s traffic woes are set to hit a whole new level — and the numbers are already sounding the alarm. As per the newly released Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) worth ₹25,567 crore, peak-hour passenger traffic by 2054 will skyrocket on several major city corridors, demanding urgent long-term solutions.
Topping the list is NH-47, from Kasturchand Park Metro Station to Mankapur Square, forecast to handle a staggering 72,748 trips per peak hour — the highest in Nagpur’s urban core. The corridor’s explosive projection explains why the Koradi underground metro in Phase-III isn’t just an upgrade but a lifeline for the city’s future mobility.
Following closely is the NH-53 corridor — from Prajapati Nagar to Nagpur Junction Railway Station — with an estimated 67,029 trips per peak hour, marking it a critical east-west connector for residential hubs and intercity rail.
Kamptee Road’s stretch from Automotive Square to Kamptee (64,988 trips), and Wardha Road’s dual segments from Chhatrapati Square to Variety Square (64,534) and Variety Square to RBI Square (63,018), are also identified as pressure zones.
Even the lesser-discussed stretches — Amravati Road (T-point Wadi to Variety Square) and Bhandara Road via Mauda — are forecast to see over 50,000 trips during peak hours. Outskirts like Katol bypass, Hingna Ring Road, and Chhindwara Road are not far behind, with 20,000+ volumes expected.
The CMP calls for coordinated action by MahaMetro, NMC, NMRDA, and NHAI to scale up metro coverage, road capacity, and smart traffic design — before these numbers turn into gridlock reality.
