In a major sanitation upgrade, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will soon set up a state-of-the-art garbage transfer station at the FCI godown in Chunabhatti near Ajni Square. Spread across 2.2 acres, the ₹3.36 crore project aims to end unhygienic roadside waste transfers and streamline solid waste movement in central and south Nagpur.
The core of the facility will be a massive 2,300 sq.m steel shed, where waste from compactors and tippers will be offloaded into hook loaders for direct transfer to Bhandewadi. This mid-point station is expected to cut down travel time, fuel costs, and street-level mess caused by manual waste shifting.
Designed for efficiency and sustainability, the site will include a leachate collection tank, stormwater drainage, underground water storage, CC roads, office space, toilets, DG platforms, and container storage zones — all secured with RCC boundary walls and a main gate.
Its strategic location near Ajni Square makes it ideal for handling waste from densely populated areas, bringing relief to local residents and traffic movement alike.
NMC officials say the station is more than a logistics upgrade — it’s part of Nagpur’s larger push under Swachh Bharat Mission and Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, to make urban growth cleaner and smarter.
Once operational, the Ajni facility will serve as a model for future waste hubs, reinforcing Nagpur’s commitment to efficient and scientific sanitation infrastructure.
