In a major step toward combating sickle cell disease, the Smritishesh Madhukarrao Tamgadge Trust has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shalinitai Meghe Hospital and Research Center to provide free treatment and establish a dedicated ward for sickle cell patients.
The formal MoU ceremony took place in the hospital auditorium, chaired by Kusumtai Tamgadge, with dignitaries including Additional DGP (Nagaland) Sandeep Tamgadge, Amol Kamble, Yashaditya Tamgadge, Hospital Director Dr. Anup Marar, Deputy Director Dr. Naresh Gill, and CMS Dr. Vasant Gawande in attendance.
Sickle cell disease, a chronic condition that causes recurrent pain and health complications, disproportionately affects tribal and marginalized populations. Recognizing the urgent need for timely and accessible care, the two institutions have come together to offer hope and healing through this strategic alliance.
“This initiative is not just medical—it’s deeply humanitarian,” said Dr. Marar, adding that the MoU aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision under the National Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Campaign.
Sandeep Tamgadge called for a unified national effort to eliminate the disease, stressing the importance of replicating such models across India.
This partnership marks a beacon of relief for countless families, and sets a precedent for collaborative public-private health initiatives.
Dr. Gawande conducted the program with heartfelt acknowledgment of the collective mission: to ensure no sickle cell patient suffers in silence.
