The Postal Department’s grand rollout of its new IT 2.0 software across all post offices on Monday turned into a full-blown fiasco in Nagpur. A server crash crippled operations in all 65 city and rural post offices, leaving citizens helpless—especially those trying to send Rakhi parcels ahead of the festival.
From Manewada to Kalmeshwar, desperate customers ran from one post office to another, only to find every counter paralyzed. All roads ultimately led to the 24×7 National Sorting Hub (NSH) at the GPO in Civil Lines, the only functioning counter in the city. But even there, people waited up to three hours in long queues under the sweltering sun.
Sunil Rohane, who needed to send a Rakhi to Nashik, said, “I tried Dnyaneshwar Nagar and Ayodhya Nagar post offices, but both were shut. I had no choice but to wait at GPO.” Others like Mahendra Sawaimul and Ranjana Badiye echoed similar frustration.
The server failure occurred after the software was launched in 2,000 post offices across Maharashtra in one go. Experts are questioning the decision: “If the system couldn’t handle the load, why launch it citywide—especially during festival season?”
Top postal officials were unreachable or offered vague explanations, while the public bore the brunt. For many, this Rakshabandhan began with a tech meltdown and long queues instead of festive cheer.
