The Nagpur City Police has issued an appeal to all senior citizens residing in the city to register themselves under the Senior Citizen Assistance Scheme if they have not yet done so. The initiative, implemented through the Bharosa Cell, is focused on providing safety, care, and timely support to elderly citizens, especially those living alone or with elderly dependents.
The Bharosa Cell of Nagpur Police has been actively running this scheme since its establishment on 11th December 2005. Senior citizens can either visit the Bharosa Cell to fill out the form themselves or call and seek home assistance if they are unable to travel. The form can be submitted physically or digitally using the provided QR code. Upon submission, the applicant receives a Senior Citizen Assistance Scheme Card.
In the year 2025 alone, 48 complaint applications were personally submitted by senior citizens, out of which 45 cases were resolved, and 36 complaints were closed after proper settlement. Moreover, the police department received 5,512 phone calls from senior citizens—1,254 from individuals living alone and 4,258 from those staying with family or spouses.
The scheme has seen a steady response over the years. Since 2005, a total of 1,027 senior citizens have registered under the initiative. Among them, 221 were individuals staying alone, while 1,703 were staying with family or companions. The Bharosa Cell has also resolved 269 cases in 2025 through counseling and police intervention. Notably, in the last month alone, 120 home visits were conducted by police officers to directly interact with and support senior citizens.
To strengthen this effort, the Nagpur Police has set up coordination teams at every police station. Each station is assigned one nodal officer and three assistant officers for senior citizen support. Additionally, the entire city is divided into two zones with designated WhatsApp groups for easier communication. These groups are supervised by senior officers for prompt response and resolution.
For the convenience of citizens, a dedicated helpline number—0712-2226533—has been made available. Citizens can call this number to report concerns, request police visits, or receive counseling. A mobile QR code option is also available for Android phone users to scan and access the digital form for registration.
Through this scheme, the Nagpur Police ensures that elderly citizens are not left alone in distress. With structured support, emergency contact sharing, and regular check-ins, the department seeks to build a safe and compassionate environment for the aging population.
