In a landmark move set to benefit thousands of urban poor, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched the Property Tax Amnesty Scheme 2025, offering a 100% waiver on penalties and interest for slum dwellers with overdue property tax. The scheme is active from August 1 to December 31, 2025, and aligns with the city’s push for affordable housing under the ‘Housing for All – 2022’ policy.
Under this relief initiative, residents of slum areas — located on government, NMC, NIT, or private lands (excluding forest department land) — can clear their dues by paying only the principal tax amount, with all accumulated penalties and execution charges to be fully waived.
The scheme applies to properties occupied before January 1, 2011, and deemed eligible for lease under state government rules. Once dues are paid, additional monthly penalties (previously 2% per month), seizure orders, and recovery fees will be completely written off.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari approved the move, while Deputy Commissioner Milind Meshram stated that it will benefit lakhs of slum residents, helping them move toward legal tenancy rights and formal housing recognition.
However, residents who cleared their dues before August 1 will not receive refunds or retroactive benefits. To qualify, beneficiaries must submit updated property tax receipts, making timely payment crucial.
NMC has urged all eligible residents to act promptly and make the most of this one-time opportunity to regularize their homes and avoid further liabilities.
