The much-awaited Wadi Flyover Phase-2 project continues to be delayed, even after multiple deadlines. With its latest expected inauguration date in July 2025 now passed, the wait continues for thousands of daily commuters on this major traffic route.
The construction of Phase-2, which started in 2022, was part of the larger project to ease traffic congestion on Amravati Road. Phase-1 of the flyover (2.5 km) was already completed and opened for public use. However, the 2.9 km long Phase-2 stretch remains unfinished.
Despite several assurances from the Public Works Department (PWD), officials have failed to deliver on the latest timeline. The estimated cost of the entire project is ?478 crore.
The heavy traffic near Futala Lake, LIT Square, and University Road continues to worsen, with Phase-2 construction work still pending. Commuters face long jams and detours as they await the completion of the final stretch.
People had hoped that the work would be completed before the monsoon, but slow pace of construction, lack of coordination, and administrative hurdles have delayed the project yet again. Motorists, especially during peak hours, are experiencing severe inconvenience.
The slow progress on Phase-2 has led to increasing frustration among locals. The pending section near Law College Square is a critical link for thousands of vehicles moving toward Wadi and beyond.
Authorities are being criticized for the continued delays. Though two pillars remain to be constructed, the lack of updates and absence of urgency have raised questions over accountability.
Until the flyover is fully operational, the traffic pressure on Amravati Road is expected to remain high, adding to the woes of the public.
