The introduction of Vande Bharat Express trains in Maharashtra has significantly enhanced passenger convenience and boosted revenue generation. With the addition of new routes, these semi-high-speed trains are expected to bring substantial economic benefits to the state.
In the financial year 2024–25, Indian Railways expects passenger earnings from Vande Bharat Express services to reach ₹10,209 crore. This marks a sharp rise compared to ₹4,786 crore earned in 2022–23 (before April 2023).
By 2024–25, Vande Bharat trains are projected to generate a nationwide annual revenue of ₹75,000 crore. Passenger occupancy rates have been consistently high, with a growing preference for Vande Bharat over conventional trains due to their speed, comfort, and punctuality.
Since their launch in 2019, Vande Bharat trains have connected major cities across the country, reducing travel time and boosting tourism and business travel.
In Maharashtra, Vande Bharat Express services currently operate on multiple routes including Mumbai–Shirdi, Mumbai–Solapur, Mumbai–Madgaon, Mumbai–Gandhinagar, Pune–Ahmedabad, Nagpur–Bilaspur, and Nagpur–Pune.
Electrification of railway tracks, modern signaling systems, and upgraded infrastructure have further improved the efficiency of these services. The expansion of Vande Bharat routes in Maharashtra is expected to continue, increasing the frequency of services and further boosting revenue and connectivity.
