A total of 114 centres have been set up across Nagpur city for the installation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), with nearly 40% of the city’s old vehicles already completing the registration process, Regional Transport Officer Kiran Bidkar announced in a press release.
As per Supreme Court directives, provisions of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 (Rule 50), and the state’s implementation plan, the process of fitting HSRP on vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, began across Maharashtra in December 2024.
These plates are essential for national security, preventing vehicle theft, identifying moving vehicles, and aiding in crime control. In Nagpur, M/s Rosmerta Safety Systems Ltd. has been authorised to carry out the installation.
The city has 8,72,473 vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. Of these, 3,40,499 (about 40%) have completed the registration for HSRP installation, while around 27% have already been fitted with the plates.
The remaining vehicles are being scheduled for appointments and fittings by the company. The 114 centres have a combined daily capacity to install HSRP plates on 5,645 vehicles.
With about 60% of vehicle owners yet to book their appointments, officials estimate that completing the process for all vehicles will take additional time.
Vehicle owners have been advised to book appointments online via https://transport.maharashtra.gov.in or visit centres directly.
Any difficulties in booking or installation have been communicated to the company, with instructions to increase the number of centres if required.
RTO Bidkar clarified that no action will be taken against owners who have already completed the booking process.
All vehicle owners are urged not to panic but to ensure timely booking and installation as per their scheduled appointments.
