The Commissioner of Police, Nagpur City has issued a strict directive to curb the increasing problem of motorcycles—particularly Bullets—fitted with modified or silencerless exhaust systems. These vehicles, which produce excessive noise, have been causing serious disturbance to residents and violating traffic laws. The police have noted a rise in such incidents, prompting immediate and coordinated action across the city.
The order states that riding vehicles with such modifications is a violation under Section 279 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving, as well as under provisions related to noise pollution and the Motor Vehicles Act. These violations not only disrupt public peace but also endanger road safety.
Traffic Police Inspectors have been instructed to take prompt action against offenders. This includes seizing the vehicles, recording statements of the violators, and registering cases under the relevant sections of the law. Detailed spot reports and evidence are to be prepared in each case, and vehicles must be documented and sent for legal processing without delay. In situations where the offense warrants, FIRs are to be registered and reports submitted to the headquarters for review.
The Police Commissioner has further emphasized that such vehicles are a major source of nuisance, especially during night hours when the loud noise disturbs residential areas. All traffic divisions have been directed to begin enforcement immediately and to submit daily reports on actions taken.
The directive has been issued to all Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police, and Traffic Police Inspectors across Nagpur City, with instructions for urgent and strict implementation.
