Concern over underage children being handed vehicles prompted the city traffic police to launch a special drive on Saturday, leading to strict action against violators.
During the campaign, seven cases were registered against parents for allowing their minor children to drive. Of these, five cases came from the Sakkardara division, while Cotton Market, Lakadganj, and Ajni divisions reported one case each.
In addition to underage driving, police also penalised motorists for wrong-side driving and triple-seat riding. The highest number of challans — 11 — were issued in Cotton Market, Lakadganj, and Indora divisions, followed by nine in Sakkardara. Action was also recorded in Sitabuldi (9), Sonegaon (7), Ajni (2), Kamptee (3), and MIDC (1).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Lohit Matani, who supervised the campaign, urged parents not to entrust vehicles to minors and called on all citizens to adhere to traffic rules. He cautioned that such negligence not only endangers lives but also poses risks to the livelihoods of many.
