Mumbai: With Ganeshotsav around the corner, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has urged Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals to strictly prioritise electrical safety while making festive arrangements. As the state prepares for grand celebrations with lights, music, and decorations, the company has stressed that only authorised electricity connections should be used to prevent mishaps. The Maharashtra government has also officially recognised Ganeshotsav as the ‘State Festival’.
To make celebrations both safe and economical, the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has fixed domestic tariff rates for temporary electricity supply during public festivals. MSEDCL said this move would help reduce expenses for Mandals while minimising risks. The utility warned organisers not to resort to illegal power tapping and instructed that all electrical work for pandals, lighting, stage shows, and Mahaprasad arrangements be carried out exclusively by licensed contractors.
The company has also issued important safety guidelines: pandals and decorations should be kept at a safe distance from poles, transformers, and supply lines; separate neutrals must be used for generators and supply lines; illegal hooks from overhead wires must be avoided; only cables that can bear the load should be used; proper earthing should be ensured; and overloading of multi-plugs must be prevented.
To facilitate temporary power connections, MSEDCL has opened special camps at its offices. Mandals are required to submit documents such as registration certificates, civic body permissions, a police license, and a certificate from the Electrical Inspector. Deposits for temporary connections will be refunded quickly, with online payments refunded immediately after the festival once dues are cleared.
For emergencies, MSEDCL has shared its 24×7 toll-free helplines – 1912, 19120, 18002123435, and 18002333435 – and advised organisers to keep the contact details of local engineers handy.
MSEDCL has called on Ganesh Mandals across the state to celebrate responsibly, ensuring the joy of welcoming Lord Ganesh is matched with complete adherence to safety measures.
