In a shocking example of administrative paralysis, a family in Kavadha (Mhasala) village under Kamptee constituency has held an entire region hostage by blocking a key district road for the past five months. Despite repeated visits by officials, the blockade continues, cutting off crucial connectivity to Warengaon, Bina, Khaparkheda, and Khairi villages.
The Rangari family claims the road was built on their farmland without proper compensation when MAHAGENCO acquired it over 35 years ago. After a 15-year court battle, the judgment went in their favor, confirming that the district road indeed runs through their private land. Following this, Baby Rangari, the legal heir, erected thorn barricades across the road, shutting down traffic and even planning to build a house on it.
The fallout has been disastrous. Access to the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran’s water treatment plant has been crippled, forcing staff to break compound walls for entry. Brick kilns and factories in the area have come to a standstill, while workers now wade through mud tracks to reach their jobs. Even the NMRDA’s rehabilitation project for brick kilns at Waregaon has collapsed because construction material cannot be transported.
Officials from the tehsildar to the SDO and PWD have all admitted helplessness. Villagers are outraged, demanding that either the government immediately settle the Rangari family’s dues and reopen the road, or urgently create an alternative route.
How long will the administration allow one family to choke vital infrastructure while thousands suffer?
