To mark World Photography Day, the Department of Mass Communication organised “Photofest”, a photography competition aimed at showcasing the creativity and imagination of students through the lens.
The event was graced by senior photojournalist Mr. Sanjib Ganguly, who attended as the chief guest. Sharing his journey, Mr. Ganguly said, “Although I entered the field of photography unexpectedly, it soon became a way of understanding and feeling every subject I captured. Earlier, photographers had to face many challenges, but today opportunities have grown. If photographers keep their imagination alive, their work will always stand out.” He also advised students to experiment with angles and perspectives before clicking any image.
The program also featured insights from eminent academicians. Dr. Prabhash Sahu emphasized that “journalism is incomplete without photography”, while Prof. Dr. Dharmesh Dhawankar highlighted the growing significance of visuals in newspapers. Senior journalist Anand Bhise introduced Mr. Ganguly and his professional contributions.
A screening of students’ photographs was held during the event, followed by the announcement of competition winners. Amol Rathod secured the first prize, Dipanshu Panddhan won the second, and Yashika Vairagade bagged the third place. Sushil Chavan and Tanuja Madavi received consolation prizes.
The program received active participation from all students and strong support from Dr. Manisha Mohod, Prof. Shruti Sangode, and Vinay Nimgade.
