Nagpur: In response to growing concerns over dog bite incidents and following the Supreme Court’s recent directives on the matter, the city-based Save Speechless Organization (SSO), headed by Smita Mire, has rolled out an anti-rabies vaccination initiative under Mission Rabies.
The month-long campaign, scheduled from September 1 to 28, 2025, aims to provide free vaccinations to stray dogs across Nagpur. The organisation emphasises that humane methods like vaccination and sterilisation are the only lasting ways to manage the stray dog population, as opposed to cruelty or displacement.
As part of the drive, volunteers will visit residential societies and neighbourhoods upon request. To reduce anxiety among animals, the SSO team has decided to avoid using capture nets and will vaccinate dogs in the least stressful way possible.
“Every vaccinated stray means reduced rabies risk for citizens and better welfare for animals,” said Mire, appealing for active public participation. The organisation has also urged NGOs, animal welfare activists, and residents to help spread awareness to ensure maximum coverage under the campaign.
