A case of fraud involving ?72 lakh has come to light in Nagpur, where a retired officer of the Public Works Department was duped in the name of investment. Two accused who carried out the scam have been arrested by the Cyber Police.
The arrested accused have been identified as Abdul Danish Sheikh (35), a resident of Jagnade Nagar, and Sheikh Zahid Anjijul Mustafa (34), a resident of Kalamna. The victim, Prashant Ramchandra Wankhede (60), is a retired officer of the Public Works Department.
Recently, Wankhede received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. The accused introduced themselves as directors and chairpersons of a reputed YouTube channel. They lured him into investing in the share market, promising good returns. Convinced by their claims, Wankhede invested his retirement fund of ?72 lakh.
When he did not receive any returns, Wankhede grew suspicious and demanded the refund of his invested money. After not receiving the amount back, he realized he had been cheated. Following his complaint, the Cyber Police registered a case and arrested both accused. Further investigation is underway.
