Nagpur Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary has directed officials to establish Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) Centers for citizens at all ten zone offices, linked with Urban Primary Health Centers.The directive was given during a review meeting held today (Aug 26) at the NMC headquarters to discuss measures regarding the rising stray dog population and treatment required after dog bites. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Mrs. Vasumana Pant, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Rajesh Bhagat, Medical Health Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar, Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, and IT Officer Mr. Swapnil Lokhande, along with representatives of NGOs.Dr. Chaudhary instructed officials to prepare a guideline in line with the Supreme Court’s directions to control the stray dog menace and to constitute a dedicated committee to meet regularly on the matter. He further suggested strengthening existing systems, forming dog-catching squads with NGO support, and providing additional training to the present manpower.The Commissioner emphasized that pet dog owners must compulsorily obtain licenses, which are already available through the corporation’s online system. He highlighted the need for public awareness on stray dog issues and suggested designating fixed locations for feeding dogs. Since stray dogs are found more in areas where garbage accumulates, he directed that waste-collection vehicle trips should be increased at such spots.Dr. Chaudhary also instructed that medicines and treatment facilities for dog bite cases be kept readily available at all centers.
