In a landmark move, the Maharashtra Government has announced that all rural roads — including farm paths, cart tracks, and village lanes — will be assigned unique identification numbers for better management and accessibility.
According to a joint government order, each rural road will undergo demarcation, record updates, and geo-referencing in digital records. The initiative aims to provide year-round access to farmlands and ensure smoother transportation of agricultural produce to markets.
Once the village-level lists are finalized and approved, they will be verified by Tehsildars and updated in official land records. Authorities will also remove encroachments and resolve disputed cases through Revenue officers and courts. Importantly, no fees will be charged to farmers for this process.
Each road will be assigned a unique code based on its district, taluka, village, and type, ensuring better clarity and reducing the chances of future ownership or boundary disputes.
