The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Nagpur district today, September 2, 2025, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places. For September 3 and 4, the district will remain under a Yellow Alert, with the forecast indicating the possibility of rain, strong winds, and lightning in some areas.
Currently, major irrigation projects like Totladoh and Navegaon Khairi are filled up to 85% of their capacity, while Wadgaon and Nand dams are nearly at 100%. Medium-sized dams are also almost full, and rivers and streams are flowing close to danger levels.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to remain cautious. Safety guidelines include staying indoors during thunderstorms, avoiding carrying mobile phones outdoors, switching off electrical appliances during lightning, and refraining from standing under trees or working in open fields during adverse weather. People are also strictly advised not to cross flooded bridges, culverts, or roads either on foot or in vehicles.
The District Disaster Management Authority and Nagpur Municipal Corporation have urged residents and farmers to follow all government advisories and remain alert for their own safety and that of their families.
