Nagpur witnessed massive traffic congestion on Monday evening as people rushed for Ganesh Puja and festive shopping. Several key roads and intersections in the city were completely jammed, leaving commuters frustrated and stranded for hours.
Due to continuous rainfall, waterlogging worsened the situation on several city roads. Potholes filled with water and broken stretches slowed down traffic further. The absence of proper traffic regulation at busy chowks made matters worse, leaving citizens helpless.
At Manas Square, Sitabuldi, Variety Square, Jhansi Rani Square, and other busy junctions, traffic moved at a snail’s pace. Long queues of four-wheelers, two-wheelers, and public transport vehicles stretched for kilometers. Citizens complained that despite repeated traffic snarls every year during the festival season, no concrete planning has been done to manage the situation.
The traffic police deployed additional personnel at major intersections, but the sheer volume of vehicles made regulation almost impossible. With signals not functioning properly at many points, chaos reigned on the roads. People returning home late in the evening had to face long delays.
Residents have demanded urgent measures, including better road maintenance, functioning signals, and effective traffic management, to prevent a repeat of such gridlocks in the coming days.
