Religious tension flared in Nagpur’s Shantinagar locality late on Wednesday after a scuffle during Ganesh Mahaprasad distribution escalated into a violent clash at NIT Ground in Mudaliar Layout. The incident, which took place on September 3, falls under the jurisdiction of Shantinagar Police Station.
According to police, the trouble began when devotees were engaged in Mahaprasad distribution. An argument broke out between the group of devotees and some members of the Muslim community, which quickly spiralled into a physical fight. Police teams rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Following a complaint, a case of attempted murder has been registered against the accused. Senior officials confirmed that investigations are in progress to identify all those involved in the violence.
To prevent further escalation, police have deployed additional forces in Shantinagar and nearby areas. Authorities have also urged citizens to maintain peace and communal harmony during the ongoing Ganesh festival.
