Employees of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) are staring at a career crisis after the government’s chaotic handling of their transfer from the Health Department to the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department. Furious workers have dragged the matter to the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, calling the move unjust and arbitrary.
The government’s order of August 28, 2025, shifted the scheme and directed district program coordinators and assistants to be absorbed by WCD. But instead of security, employees were slapped with just three-month contracts. Even worse, an earlier April 2025 order had cited “technical grounds” for changes, but never formally relieved them — leaving their service records hanging in thin air.
Workers insist government resolutions clearly mandate regular absorption for those with 10 years or more of service. Yet this crucial clause has been deliberately ignored. Ironically, the WCD Department itself had officially refused to take these employees in December 2024 — exposing the government’s complete lack of planning.
The Kastrayb Federation and Maharashtra State Employees Welfare Association (Pune) have now stepped in. Federation president Arun Gade has demanded employees remain with the Health Department until the High Court verdict. He has also urged their immediate adjustment into National Health Mission (NHM) vacancies and inclusion in seniority lists to ensure long-term stability.
For now, PMMVY employees remain trapped in a bureaucratic tug-of-war. What should have been a smooth absorption has turned into a battle for survival — and the government’s credibility is on the line.
