Nagpur: A 20-year-old woman was brutally attacked by her boyfriend in Parseoni Police Station jurisdiction on Monday morning. The survivor, identified as Punam (name changed), sustained multiple stab wounds, while the accused has been named as 27-year-old Sandeep Amardeep Gajbhiye.
Police said Punam works as a nurse at a private hospital, whereas Sandeep is employed in a cotton mill. The two had been in a relationship for three years, but differences arose after Punam distanced herself upon discovering his addiction to alcohol. Despite repeated calls from Sandeep, she refused to engage with him, which allegedly enraged him.
At around 10 am on Monday, Punam was standing outside her house when Sandeep arrived. On spotting him, she attempted to go indoors, but he pulled out a knife concealed at his waist and stabbed her several times on the back, stomach, and waist. He even tried to strike her neck, but she managed to block the blow and raised an alarm. Neighbours rushed to her aid, forcing Sandeep to flee the scene.
Punam was immediately taken to a rural hospital for treatment. A case of attempted murder was registered at Parseoni Police Station. Acting swiftly, a team led by Police Inspector Omprakash Kokate, along with API Manoj Gadade, HC Vipin Gayadhane, Virendra Narad, and Amit Mehere, tracked down and arrested Sandeep in Nagpur. He was later handed over to Parseoni Police for further investigation.
