The Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC), representing over 13 lakh traders in Vidarbha, has urged the central government to extend deadlines for filing income tax and tax audit returns. The Chamber sent letters to Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari, and the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Nagpur, citing delays in form issuance and technical challenges faced by taxpayers and professionals.
NVCC President Arjundas Ahuja welcomed the government’s decision to extend non-audit income tax return deadlines to September 15, 2025, but requested similar relief for audit and tax audit filings due to current challenges.
Chamber Secretary Sachin Puniyani highlighted that the income tax forms and ITR-3 details for professionals were released late, leaving limited time for compliance. “Although the income tax website is functioning well, technical issues still slow down data retrieval and return filing,” he said.
CA Sandeep Jotwani, Coordinator of NVCC’s Direct Tax Committee, noted that taxpayers must verify multiple details on portals such as INSIGHT and TRACES, which are operating slowly. As a result, only 5.3 crore registered taxpayers have filed returns so far, while the majority remain pending. He also pointed out that the upcoming festive period from September 22 to 27 could further delay compliance.
The Chamber has requested the government to extend deadlines as follows: non-audit cases to September 30, 2025; tax audit report filing to November 30, 2025; and audit cases to December 31, 2025.
The press release was issued by NVCC Secretary Sachin Puniyani.
