In the wake of measles and rubella outbreaks in Beed and Nashik districts, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced a special vaccination drive across the city from September 15 to 30, 2025. The campaign aims to protect children from potential infection and prevent a repeat of the tragedies seen elsewhere in the state.
A task force meeting was held at the NMC headquarters on Friday (Sept 12), chaired by Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant. She directed civic health officers to ensure complete coverage. “Every child must be vaccinated. Parents, schools, and communities must cooperate — this is the only shield against measles and rubella,” Pant emphasized.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including Dr. Deepak Selokar, Dr. Narendra Bahirwar, Dr. Sarla Lad, and World Health Organization (WHO) expert Dr. Mohammad Sajid. Highlighting the urgency, Dr. Sajid noted, “Outbreaks in Beed and Nashik have already led to deaths. Nagpur cannot afford to face the same crisis.”
To execute the drive, NMC will deploy special vaccination teams comprising doctors, nurses, ASHA workers, and anganwadi staff. These teams will visit schools, educational institutions, and localities to ensure no child is missed.
The vaccine will be safe, free, and provided to every eligible child, civic officials underlined. With the campaign set to begin on September 15, NMC has made its goal clear: shield every child in Nagpur before measles and rubella can spread further.
