In a decisive strike against the narcotics trade, Zone-5 police have seized 224 grams of mephedrone (MD) valued at ₹48.6 lakh and arrested four persons during a two-day crackdown under the ongoing “Operation Thunder” drive.
Working on Commissioner of Police Ravindrakumar Singal’s directives, a Kalmana Police Station team led by Senior Inspector Pravin Kale and Investigation Officer Santoshkumar Ramlod intercepted an MG ZS EV (MH-49-CF-7214) at Minimata Nagar around 3.15 a.m. on September 16. The car occupants—Amit Lajjaram Sharma (44) of Mahal, Itwari, and Mukesh Niranjan Tarale (47) of Vasant Nagar—were caught with 5.03 g of MD worth ₹75,000. The red electric vehicle, valued at ₹15 lakh, was also seized under the NDPS Act.
Interrogation revealed supplier details, leading to back-to-back raids. On the night of September 17-18, police nabbed Ayush Deepak Ingole (20) of Gangabai Ghat Road with 219 g of MD worth ₹32.85 lakh. His disclosures helped track Mayur Prakash Thawkar (21) of Shankar Nagar, Kharbi Road, who was arrested near Gangabai Ghat soon after.
The total haul stands at 224 g of mephedrone and assets worth ₹48.6 lakh. Investigators have also identified a woman peddler linked to the network, with further arrests expected.
The operation was supervised by Additional CP Rajendra Dhabade, DCP Niketan Kadam, and ACP Ankush Khedkar, with key roles played by officers Ravikumar Shahu, Pradip Pawar, Mangesh Lohi, Santosh Pande, Anil Jadhav, and Prafull Gahokar. Police have warned that suppliers and peddlers will face strict NDPS action as anti-narcotics drives intensify citywide.
