Nagpur: Concern is mounting in the city after health authorities confirmed eight cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), a dangerous brain infection that can turn fatal if treatment is delayed. Of the reported cases, five patients are from Madhya Pradesh, while two belong to Nagpur city and one to its rural outskirts.
AES is considered a critical condition, as delayed medical attention can prove fatal. Acting on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has directed all health facilities to remain on standby. The response is being supervised by Medical Health Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar.

- Government and private hospitals have been told to promptly notify the municipal health department of any suspected AES cases.
- Testing and treatment procedures for potential patients are being fast-tracked.
- Awareness drives have been rolled out, urging citizens to seek medical care at the earliest signs of illness.

AES is a rapidly progressing inflammation of the brain. Common symptoms include:
- Sudden high fever
- Dizziness or confusion
- Seizures
- Loss of consciousness
- Difficulty in speech or walking in severe cases
Public Advisory
Doctors have advised that anyone experiencing fever, seizures, or loss of consciousness should immediately approach a hospital. The NMC has appealed to residents not to ignore early symptoms, stressing that timely treatment is crucial for saving lives.
