Acting on a tip-off, Sonegaon police arrested a 24-year-old youth for possession of mephedrone (MD) powder worth ₹60,000 late on September 24. Around 9.15 pm, a team laid a trap near Shivnagaon Phata on the Butibori–Nagpur Main Road and intercepted an Activa scooter (MH-32-AW-0414). The rider, identified as Sharad Shyamrao Katlam of Shantiniketan Nagar, Chinchbhavan, was searched in the presence of panch witnesses.
Police recovered 6 grams of MD powder concealed in a zip-lock pouch from his trouser pocket. Officers also seized his mobile phone and the Activa, taking total confiscated property to ₹1.4 lakh. Preliminary investigation revealed he was carrying the contraband for sale to earn quick profit.
A case under Sections 8(c) and 22(b) of the NDPS Act has been registered at Sonegaon Police Station. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional CP (South) Shivajirao Rathod, DCP Rishikesh Reddy, and ACP Ashok Shelke, with PI Nitin Magar and his team leading the action. Further investigation is underway.
