Nagpur and several parts of Vidarbha were caught off guard on Wednesday afternoon as heavy showers drenched the region. What began as a clear, sunny morning quickly turned into dark skies by 4:30 PM, followed by a 20–30 minute spell of intense rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now sounded yellow and orange alerts, warning that rainfall could intensify over the coming days. According to officials, the monsoon has reactivated in central India and may deliver a final burst before making its exit.
In Nagpur, areas like Ramdaspeth and Dhantoli reported heavy waterlogging, while other localities also faced disruption. Meanwhile, the IMD has issued orange alerts for Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli, with yellow alerts for the remaining Vidarbha districts.
The wet spell is likely to continue for the next four to five days, posing challenges for farmers. Crops such as soybean, pigeon pea (tur), cotton, vegetables, and citrus fruits (oranges and mosambi) may face damage due to excess moisture.
Meteorologists attribute this sudden surge in rainfall to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is pushing widespread showers across Vidarbha and central India.
