The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Nagpur district from September 25 to 27, 2025, warning of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas. Strong winds are also likely during this period.
According to the district administration, major irrigation projects such as Totladoh and Navegaon Khairi dams are already at 100% capacity, while Vadgaon and Nand dams are nearly full. Several medium-sized reservoirs are also close to maximum levels, and rivers and streams across the district are flowing near the danger mark.
Authorities have urged residents to take all necessary precautions:
• Stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid carrying mobile phones in the open.
• Switch off electrical appliances when lightning activity is reported.
• Do not shelter under trees or remain in open fields during heavy rain or thunder.
• Avoid crossing flooded bridges, causeways or roads, whether on foot or in a vehicle.
The District Disaster Management Authority has appealed to citizens and farmers to strictly follow government advisories for their own safety and that of their families.
