The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has launched a high-tech drone and DGPS survey covering nearly 9,000 acres of Gunthewari layouts and government-owned lands across the metropolitan region. The initiative aims to bring long-pending clarity to land ownership, regularize unauthorized colonies, and protect valuable public land from encroachments.
The survey will generate 3D aerial maps, digital elevation models, and geo-tagged layouts, all linked to official city survey records. Infrastructure like roads, pipelines, and drainage lines will also be mapped. For residents of unregularized Gunthewari layouts, this means a faster path toward legal titles, building permissions, and access to civic amenities.
On government land, NMRDA plans to install boundary stones, fencing, and compound walls once surveys are completed, making it harder for encroachments to go unchecked. Officials say that with every parcel digitally mapped and secured, future unauthorized layouts will be immediately detected, curbing fraudulent land sales and haphazard urban sprawl.
Survey agencies are being empanelled for a three-year period, extendable by two, with work allocated based on urgency and scale. For citizens, the impact will be felt in better infrastructure planning, reduced disputes, and stronger land security. For NMRDA, it signals a shift to data-driven governance where technology guides decisions.
By combining drones in the sky with digital mapping on the ground, the authority is taking a decisive step toward reshaping Nagpur’s land management system.
