Acting on a tip-off, Sadar police raided a hookah parlour at Mount Road, Downtown, and seized banned tobacco products worth ?3,440.
During patrolling, the team raided Downtown Hookah Parlour around 8.30 pm and found manager Gaurav Bokde (32), resident of Manevada Road, serving flavoured tobacco-based hookahs to customers. On further questioning, the owner was identified as Nikhil Khumeriya (31), resident of Itwari, near Jain Mandir, Nagpur.
Investigations revealed that both the manager and owner were running the parlour illegally for monetary gain. Police seized hookah pots, flavoured tobacco, and other materials from the spot.
A case has been registered under Sections 4(A), 5, and 21 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003, read with Maharashtra Amendment Act 2018, at Sadar police station. The raid was conducted under the guidance of DCP Nityanand Jha and ACP Sunita Meshram by PI Amol Deshmukh and his team. Further probe is on.
