Maharashtra marked the beginning of ‘Cyber Awareness Month – October 2025’ with an inaugural event held at the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) on Friday, October 3. The initiative, focused on addressing the rising dangers of cybercrime, was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, senior police officials, and Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.
A striking moment of the programme came when Akshay Kumar shared a personal incident involving his teenage daughter, Nitara. The actor revealed that while playing an online game a few months ago, his daughter encountered an unknown player who initially appeared friendly.

“The person kept sending harmless messages such as ‘well played’ and ‘fantastic’. It looked innocent at first. But soon, he asked if she was a boy or girl. After she replied that she was a girl, his behaviour suddenly changed,” Kumar recounted.
He went on to disclose that the stranger shockingly demanded nude photographs from his daughter. “Thankfully, my daughter closed the game instantly and informed my wife. The most important thing was that she didn’t keep it to herself,” Kumar said.
Warning on Online Predators
Highlighting the incident as a cautionary tale, the actor underlined that such tactics are commonly used by cybercriminals to groom children. They begin with friendly interactions to gain trust and later attempt to manipulate or exploit minors, sometimes leading to blackmail and even cases of suicide.
Government Push for Digital Safety
The month-long awareness drive will emphasise the importance of online safety, digital responsibility, and preventive measures against cyber threats. Special focus will be placed on educating schoolchildren, parents, and teachers about the risks lurking on the internet.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in his address, urged citizens to remain vigilant in the digital era, stressing that cybercrime prevention requires both awareness and prompt action.
